Write LA is run by two writers who don’t know much about tech. We want to be as upfront with you as possible about what (minimal) data we collect and how we use it, but as we are neither developers nor lawyers, we’re going to write this in terms that we understand.
All information below is current as of March 22, 2020.

Data Collection
Write LA is a WordPress website. We do not actively collect any personal data from anyone who visits write-la.com, but we are able to track the country and general region that visitors are in. We do this with Jetpack and Google Analytics. You can check the Jetpack privacy policy here, and the Google privacy policy here. Basically, we don’t know anything about who you are other than your general location.

Email List
If you sign up for the Write LA email list, we collect either your name and email address or just your email address. We will only use this email list for occasional updates about the competition and related information. You are free to unsubscribe from the email list at anytime. We will never share or sell your information.

Entrants
We currently take entries to the Write LA competition through FilmFreeway and Coverfly. You can read FilmFreeway’s privacy policy here. FilmFreeway does not share your billing address or payment information with us. When you enter the contest, you pay FilmFreeway directly, then they take a cut and pay us what’s left. You can read Coverfly’s Data Use and Protection Policy here. Coverfly likewise does not share your billing address or payment information with us. Like FilmFreeway, Coverfly collects entries and payments for us for a fee.

The information we receive about entrants is limited to their name, email address, submitted script, and their FilmFreeway or Coverfly profile — however, we do not review profiles as part of the competition.
We will use the names and email addresses of entrants to inform them of their judging status. Entrants can also opt in to receive occasional emails about contest discounts or upcoming seasons of Write LA. Entrants can unsubscribe from these emails at any time. If entrants choose to not opt in, they will still receive an email notification when their judging status is determined. Entrants are not automatically signed up for the Write LA email list, which anyone can sign up for through the Write LA website.
