Tim and I could not be more excited to reveal the 2020 Write LA semifinalists on September 15! The first round of reading is complete, and Tim and his small team of trusted readers are currently re-reading the best scripts to determine our Top 15. The submissions this year have been the best to date, and we cannot wait to reveal which writers rose to the top!
Amidst all that excitement, we do have an update that’s a bit of a bummer – though not entirely unexpected. We really hoped, as everyone did, that this pandemic would be much more under control by now, but it’s not. Things are unlikely to dramatically improve by November, so an in-person Grand Prize weekend is off the table this year.
But! As promised, we’re still going to do everything in our power to make the Grand Prize as amazing as possible for the winner. We’ll still stage a live read of the winning script with professional actors and produce a beautifully edited video of the performance for the winner – it will just happen over Zoom. Likewise, the customized meetings with Industry Insiders will happen over Zoom. Tim and I will also throw in a $100 DoorDash gift card to make up for the Friday night dinner we usually treat the winner to!
Roadmap Writers will still promote the Finalists and Winners to their extensive network of reps and producers. That part of the prize won’t change at all. We’ve still got amazing screenwriting books for the Semifinalists and up courtesy of Michael Wiese Productions. And we still have a free copy of Final Draft 11 for the Finalists.
It’s going to be different, but it will still be great. We’ll work our hardest for and in conjunction with the winner to make sure of that.
